Charleston Wedding Planner – weather considerations
“It’s like rain on your wedding day” is a line made famous by Alanis Morrisette’s song “Isn’t it ironic”. While rain is the number one weather priority on a wedding day there are some other weather considerations.
Heat – Charleston is rather warm in the summer. Even in October or March the temperature can be in the 80’s. A tent is a consideration not only for rain but for heat. Other ways to keep your guests cool include providing fan programs, providing beverages such as sweet tea or lemonade in beverage stands or bottled water in galvanized tubs.
Hurricanes – Charleston is located in a hurricane zone. We have had one occasion where we had to move an outdoor wedding from a state park into our home. There are now houses built where we had our parking and our HOA sent us a rather stern warning notice so we won’t be doing that again. Even indoor weddings are in jeopardy if there is a threat of a hurricane. Your best protection is to obtain hurricane insurance. Ask your Charleston wedding planner about this option.

Rain – back to the rain. It is definitely a consideration for outdoor weddings. A large portion of weddings include outdoor ceremonies. If a bride has an indoor reception it is often possible to also move the ceremony inside. A bride will want to take this into account when working on a floor plan, especially if she still wants a traditional aisle. For brides having outdoor reception a tent is something that definitely needs to be considered. Some rental companies offer a “Rain reserve” plan whereby a client pays 35% of the tent rental if they reserve but don’t use a tent and 100% of the cost if they do use the tent. Most companies require that clients decide 48 hours in advance so that they can staff properly.
Sunset – technically this is not weather, but it is affected by the time of year. Brides may want to check a sunset chart when planning their weddings as it may affect their overall timeline, especially photographs.
